Meet the Team

 

 

Jon Tyler, Headmaster

Jon became Headmaster of Lucton in September 2021, having been Deputy Head (Academic) of Dauntsey’s School for six years during a period of record growth and results for the school. With a first-class honours degree from the University of Durham (where he was awarded the History Prize), Jon has also been a Head of History, Housemaster and Head of Gifted and Talented at previous HMC schools. He won a national teaching prize from O2 Learn in 2012, and has always enjoyed coaching sports teams and running extra-curricular activities alongside his teaching.

 

Simon Jones, Bursar

Simon joined Lucton in 2021 from his previous role as Foundation Secretary of Warwick Independent Schools Foundation, a group of schools educating around 2,500 pupils, and employing c600 staff, with an annual turnover of over c£38m. His role incorporated all aspects of strategy, governance and financial leadership, as well as operational oversight of shared services for the four schools within the Foundation. Simon moved into the independent schools sector in 2002, after a successful career in finance and construction. He has been a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) since 2005. In his downtime, Simon can often be found on the golf course or tennis courts.

 

Elmien Niblett, Deputy Head (Pastoral)

Elmien taught Maths in South Africa for 13 years before relocating to the UK in 2002. She has a passion for ensuring that students are stretched to meet their needs and completed a BEd (Hons) on this theme whilst continuing to teach full time in South Africa. Elmien joined Lucton in 2011 and shortly after became Head of Middle School, then Pastoral Deputy Head in 2017. In the academic year 2020-21, Elmien was appointed Acting Head with Mr Goode. Elmien also has the distinction of being a proud Old Luctonian Parent.

 

John Goode, Deputy Head (Academic)

John joined Lucton as Head of History, Head of Sixth Form and Director of Studies in 2008. In 2018, he was appointed as Academic Deputy Head and subsequently shared the Interim Headship with Mrs Niblett in 2020-21. In addition to his varied teaching roles throughout his career so far, John is a published author of History A-Level study guides, particularly his work on Henry VII, and an examiner for both GCSE and A-Level History. As a Cambridge graduate himself, John has been able to offer indispensable advice on Oxbridge entry as a Higher Education Adviser to many students.

 

David Bicker-Caarten, Head of Prep School

David joined Lucton in January 2011 as the first Head of Lucton Prep School, having relocated from 8 years in the Persian Gulf where he was a Head of Year 5, and Headmaster of Seashell School in Oman. David has an MBA in Education (Leicester University) as well as a PGCE and a degree in Economic History from UEA. Coming to teaching via being an Activities Instructor in an Adventure Centre and a teacher in Turkey for 3 months, David had a previous career in journalism and spent 3 years managing a ski shop in sunny Guildford.

 

Irona Powell, Nursery Manager

 

Irona joined Lucton Nursery in 2006 and has managed its successful growth since then. Irona has been instrumental in developing our excellent Forest School facility, with staff training as Forest School leaders. In 2018, Irona and her Deputy co-wrote an Early Years Practitioner’s Guide for the overseas market and travelled to Lucton Shanghai to train teaching staff at the first Lucton Kindergarten. Irona is committed to nurturing children’s natural love for learning so that they have the best possible start in life.  She joined us from her previous nursery which she established and ran, following a career working with local families with specific needs and as a Head Veterinary Nurse.

 

Sharron Goode, Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

 

After a successful career as a Head in three Northamptonshire schools, Sharron joined Lucton in 2014. With her vast experience in safeguarding, having trained as a nationally-accredited safeguarding trainer and being treasurer for the Midlands Association for Safeguarding in Education, Sharron has an exceptionally broad range of educational experience from both state and private sector. Sharron studied Biological Studies at Leicester before studying Education at Oxford. In her downtime, Sharron is a qualified equestrian coach and Chair of the governing body of a local Church of England primary school.

 

Michael Wolstenholme, Head of Sixth Form

 

Michael is the Head of Sixth Form at Lucton and teaches both Economics and History. He can also be found on the sports pitches coaching Lucton football teams. Michael gained a first-class honours degree in History from Royal Holloway before completing an MA in Crusader Studies, a TSEOL qualification from Trinity College, London and gaining his PGCE from Roehampton. Prior to joining Lucton Michael has had quite the international educational experience. Having grown up in Brunei, Michael taught in leading international schools in the UK, Tanzania, and Costa Rica.
