children from a prep school in lucton with pens in their hands

Rebecca, Year 12

science experiment by school girl at Lucton School

I first became aware of Lucton School after attending their annual maths competition. At the time, I was attending a large, local senior school, but I was really impressed by how different the environment was at Lucton; it was considerably smaller than I was used to and had a really welcoming feel; quite different to how I envisioned a private school being.

A few months later I saw an advert at my school for Lucton’s scholarship day and, although I had planned to attend a local sixth form college, I felt that I had nothing to lose and so I decided to apply. The rest is history!

One of the things that helped me decide on Lucton was the size of the classes. I plan on studying medicine at university and I was conscious that I wanted an environment that was small enough that it wasn’t distracting and I could get plenty of time with my tutors, but large enough that I was still able to make plenty of friends. The teaching style really suits me too; I feel empowered to ask questions in class and my tutors are all approachable and friendly.

Before joining Lucton I spent part of my free time in the Army cadets, but at Lucton I am now able to continue this within the school day. I also enjoy being able to play netball and football too, so I feel that my time here is really well structured and varied; today I’m completing redox calculations in chemistry and tomorrow I’ve got map reading in Duke of Edinburgh.
