There
are hundreds of old pupils and staff who stay in touch
with their old school through the Old Luctonians Association
Contact
may be made via the school, or directly with the association
secretary, Harry Paske. The following is part of a
message from Harry, that was published in the 2006
edition of 'The Luctonian', the school's annual magazine:
The
objects of the OLA are to enable members to maintain
contact with the School and with one another, but
also to promote the interests of the School by assisting
in any movement for their furtherance. I always add
all the leavers immediately to the address list, and
in order to encourage them to join the association
no subscription (at present £15 yearly) is payable
until the age of 18.
At present we have 978 members of whom 62 live abroad
in places as distant as Alaska, Japan, Thailand, Australia
and New Zealand. Our oldest member, Ben Fickling CBE
FRCS, is well into his nineties – he visited
the School on his ninetieth birthday and climbed to
the present Sixth Form level without assistance. Ben
arrived at Lucton in 1917 after a zeppelin destroyed
his school in London. If he should attend our November
Reunion he would certainly win the regular prize of
malt whisky for the pupil who attended Lucton the
earliest. Last year, 2005, the bottle was won by Guy
Thompson (1935-1939), seen in appropriate celebratory
mood in this photograph.

Another
of our regular events is the Boxing Day cross country,
the School, past and present, against the Croft Ambrey
Running Club. Old pupils, present pupils, parents
and staff may represent the School. Please arrive
at Croft Castle car park ready for the start at 11.00am
on Boxing Day. I look forward to seeing you. Very
best wishes for Christmas and New Year.
Harry Paske, OLA Secretary.
