The
Friends of Lucton School is Lucton's very active parent/teacher
support group. Through a series of social events throughout
the year, funds are raised towards improving the classroom
experience by purchasing extra items of equipment
and software.
An
appeal by the Friends to raise £50,000 towards
the new swimming pool was completed last year and
the final cheque was presented to the headmistress
at the Friends' AGM. This year, we are raising money
to improve the provision of musical instruments at
the school and have purchased £2,500 worth of
string instruments and a new grand piano for the Memorial
Hall.

PREVIOUS EVENTS
TERCENTENARY
SUMMER BALL
300 guests gathered to celebrate the 2008 Summer Ball
in a large marquee on Holland playing fields. It was
a fantastic evening – our most spectacular event
to date!

Clay Pigeon Shoot
The Clay Pigeon shoot, which took place at Oakerwood
Leisure in Kingsland was a great occasion, with thirteen
teams competing and a fair number of helpers and spectators.
The weather was exceptionally kind and as Mr Llewellin
put it, ‘the sun made shooting difficult at
times’, at least that was his excuse! Josh and
Matthew Handley, with James, were one family team
who did reasonably well, but the winners were friends
of the Gorings who only missed two out of thirty clays.
Many thanks to John and Kate Russell for the organisation
and far too many helpers, scorers, caterers, etc.
to list, for making the event such a success. It is
a first for recent years and we will certainly wish
to run it again next year. Also, if there is any interest
in a separate event for younger entrants only, with
some added coaching, please let the school office
know your wishes.
Race Night
The Race Night on was everything we hoped for and
the Memorial Hall was an excellent venue. There were
some volume issues on the sound during the first race,
but it was soon sorted out when Mrs Handley joined
the commentary team. Richard Williams also whipped
up considerable enthusiasm (and money) when he auctioned
the horses for the last race. It was a great evening
and the cheese selection from The Mousetrap was fantastic!
OUR
LAST CHRISTMAS DINNER & DANCE WAS A GREAT SUCCESS.
WE HAD A GREAT TIME WHILST RAISING OVER £2,000.
