Excellent results for Lucton School

Lucton School celebrates another year of excellent A level exam results.

A level pupils at Lucton School celebrate another year of excellent exam results and Head of Sixth Form, John Goode, praised his pupils’ success, saying, “I am absolutely delighted. Our pupils have worked so hard and can now look forward confidently to continuing in their chosen fields of study.”

With just over 20 candidates, this year’s cohort achieved 30% A* and A results, over 50% A* to B and 72% A* to C, the top students have done extremely well. Lucy Feng, Megan Griffiths, Robert Wassink and Gloria Yang all achieved at least A*AA, plus other grades and many A grade AS passes. A number of pupils have also done well with the Extended Project (EPQ), which is highly valued by universities and every student planning to go on to university this year has secured a place.

Unusually from Lucton’s small cohorts, this autumn sees two students going to the same university in two instances. Aidan is reading Medicine and Lucy is reading Accountancy & Finance at Exeter, whilst both Josh (Engineering) and Gloria (Computer Science) are going to Bristol University.

Lucton Sixth Form has 50 day and boarding pupils and Headmistress, Gill Thorne, credits Lucton’s ability to ensure students reach the best university possible, to the fact that the school is able to personalise programmes of study and tuition, tailoring these to individual students. Coupled with outstanding teaching, Lucton provides a fantastic Sixth Form education and environment and it is ideal preparation for the demands of university life.

Over 80% 5 A* to C and 100% pass rate in 7 subjects at GCSE.

Over 80% of the Year 11 exams taken were passes, achieving A* to C grades (or 4 and above on the new grading system). Again this year, sciences did very well and in all, seven separate subjects achieved a 100% pass rate. History led the way with 50% A* results!

Lucton’s Headmistress, Mrs Gill Thorne, is delighted by the results. “Being a mixed ability school, we are used to variable results, but any school would be proud of these grades. Again, I am particularly pleased to see an increasing number of subjects achieving a 100% pass rate. Many of these, especially the sciences, are subjects that universities value particularly highly and the statistics are quite remarkable.”

Out of a relatively small cohort, Lucton’s top four Year 11 performers, Ed Binns, Grace Ralph, Holly Powell and Harriet Brick achieved 42 A* and A grades between them, with 22 A* grades.

Lucton School pupils have also achieved excellent value-added scores, with pupils lifting on average, one grade per subject. The results of this cohort fully endorse Lucton’s ambition to enable every pupil to achieve their full potential.
