ICT, Lucton School

ICT

In a rapidly changing world, the study of Information and Communication Technology at Lucton School aims to provide pupils with skills which will enable them to make the most of every learning opportunity and to thrive as they enter the world of work.

The curriculum is designed so that, not only are the pupils grounded in the essential ICT capabilities that are now an important skill for life,  but they are also regularly introduced to new ideas and resources which will enable them to become confident, adaptable and independent users of new technology.  Employers are increasingly looking for employees who are able to think analytically, critically and creatively in order to generate new ideas and solve problems.  The study of ICT provides an excellent platform for the development of these capabilities.

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3 the pupils study ICT for one double lesson per week.  They cover the essentials for basic ICT literacy including:  word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desk-top publishing, web publishing and presentation software.  Tools for editing movie and sound files are also introduced.

Key Stage 4

Building on Key Stage 3, at Key Stage 4 every pupil follows a course in ICT Functional Skills at level 2.  ICT GCSE can also be studied as an option.  Currently we follow the Edexcel ICT GCSE course.

Sixth Form

In the Sixth Form, pupils study A Level ICT from WJEC. There are 2 units for an AS, and an additional 2 units for a full A level. The course is a suitable foundation for progression into further study of ICT or related areas, or direct entry into employment. By its nature this is a subject that requires candidates to consider individual, moral, ethical, social, cultural and contemporary issues. A Level ICT encourages learners to become discerning users of ICT, developing a broad range of ICT skills, knowledge and understanding.

Pupils studying ICT have access to a wide (and ever-expanding) array of resources and support through this dedicated link:   www.luctonict.weebly.com
