The sporting ethos of Lucton Prep School is that all children enjoy playing sport, learn new skills and overcome challenges. At Lucton children enjoy two 2 hour games sessions a week, an activity afternoon, plus the sole use of our indoor swimming pool in two 1 hour sessions a week. Games sessions take place on Mondays and Thursdays, with “Mini Olympics” occurring on Fridays.
We begin in the Pre Prep by introducing the fundamental motor skills that make up the bed rock of all sports. Throughout the Prep School sport-specific skills and techniques are introduced as pupils grow in confidence. Gradually, tactical awareness is also brought in to support the skills that they are learning. Throughout the school week children are encouraged and supported by qualified and experienced coaches including a specialist swimming coach and sports staff from the Senior School.
We try and find fixtures against other schools for as many children, and in as many sporting areas, as possible. We also hold inter-house competitions and tournaments that prove highly enjoyable, such as Sports Days and Swimming Galas. Spread over the Christmas and Easter term the main boys' sports are rugby and football. Girls play hockey and netball. In the summer the focus turns to cricket for the boys and rounders for the girls. Individual disciplines are also delivered alongside the team sports. We run opportunities for athletics, tennis, triathlon, cross country, badminton and horse riding. We regularly hold and attend athletics meetings, swimming galas and tournaments throughout each term. We have a Triathlon Club and an Equestrian Centre.
