When Prince Edward, The Earl of Wessex visited
Lucton School in June, the school was absolutely buzzing with
excitement and the enjoyment of the visit by all concerned was
so obvious to see.
The Prince’s helicopter arrived on time and even a brief
shower did not dampen his walk along the line of the whole school
and guests, including a number of parents and Old Luctonians.
During the visit, Prince Edward met a number of prep school
pupils and saw some excellent swimming displays in the new swimming
pool, which he agreed to name ‘The Wessex Pool’.
The Prince saw the CCF on parade, appeared to be highly entertained
by some of our music and drama in the senior school and spent
time with the nursery and reception class, at their Teddy Bears’
Picnic, immediately before finally returning to his helicopter.
For Sir Thomas Dunne, this was the last Royal visit he supervised
in his capacity as Lord Lieutenant of Herefordshire. Apart from
Sir Thomas and Lady Dunne, and the other Herefordshire dignitaries,
we were joined for the visit by two representatives of the Vintners
Company, Andrew Ling and Michael Hasslacher. John Pierrepont,
our founder, was a vintner and we are very pleased that they
have been able to share our celebration of the 300th anniversary
of John Pierrepont’s founding of Lucton School in 1708.
